The meaningful tradeoff
NaturalReader's Lite plan is unusually competitive: its official page lists OCR, annotations, a pronunciation editor, AI Smart Filter, and one million MP3 characters each month. SpeakMyDoc should not pretend this is an easy win.
SpeakMyDoc's advantage is workflow focus. The free extension reads a page with device voices without requiring an account. Paid document processing stores extracted text rather than the original file, browser OCR can be reviewed before saving, and an interrupted long MP3 job retains completed chunks. The Pro tier also supports translation followed by alternating source and translated sentences.
PDF reading order still matters
NaturalReader's own help center explains that skipped or out-of-order text can be caused by document formatting and recommends its filters or OCR. That is an honest description of the underlying problem: PDFs store positioned objects, not always a clean reading stream.
SpeakMyDoc cannot promise perfect extraction either. It separates ordinary text extraction from OCR, reports low OCR confidence, and lets the user review text before committing to a cloud audio job.
