How SpeakMyDoc collects, uses, stores, and shares account, document, audio, usage, and payment-related data.

This policy explains how SpeakMyDoc handles information when you use speakmydoc.net, the SpeakMyDoc Chrome extension, and account-based reading and audio services.

What we collect

Account data: name, email address, authentication records, account preferences, and subscription status.
Service data: saved extracted document text, detected language, reading position, annotations, pronunciation rules, translation output, audio-job status, usage totals, and generated audio files. The paid document uploader extracts text in your browser; SpeakMyDoc does not retain the original PDF, DOCX, or EPUB file.
Support data: email address, support topic, message, a one-way hash of the requesting network address for abuse prevention, and request time.
Technical and analytics data: browser/device information, approximate network information, page visits, referrer or campaign information, and product interactions when analytics is enabled. We do not intentionally include document text or original filenames in analytics events.
Payment data: order, subscription, amount, currency, status, and PayPal transaction identifiers. PayPal processes payment credentials; SpeakMyDoc does not receive full payment-card details.

Local and cloud processing

The free PDF preview and free Chrome extension use browser text extraction and device voices. In that flow, document/page text is not sent to SpeakMyDoc or a cloud TTS provider.

When you explicitly use saved or paid features, extracted text and related settings are sent to SpeakMyDoc servers. Text required for cloud speech is sent to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech. Text required for translation is sent to Google Cloud Translation. Browser OCR runs on your device.

Why we use data

We use information to operate and secure accounts, save reading progress, generate requested speech and translations, enforce plan limits, process subscriptions, respond to support and privacy requests, prevent abuse, troubleshoot failures, and improve product reliability.

Service providers

SpeakMyDoc uses service providers including Vercel for hosting, Neon for PostgreSQL database services, Cloudflare R2 or compatible object storage for generated audio, Google for paid text-to-speech and translation, PayPal for payments, and configured authentication/analytics providers. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies.

Retention and deletion

Saved document text, reading progress, and annotations expire after 7 days on Free, 90 days on Starter, and 1 year on Pro. Generated Starter audio expires after 30 days and Pro audio after 90 days. Account, order, and limited security records may remain while the account is active or as reasonably needed for fraud prevention, dispute handling, and legal obligations.

You can delete saved documents from the Library. To request access, correction, or deletion of account data, submit a Privacy request through the contact page. We may verify account ownership before acting. Some payment or transaction records may need to be retained where required by law or legitimate recordkeeping needs.

Security

We use HTTPS, authentication, access controls, and private storage paths to reduce unauthorized access. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. More detail is available on Security & Data Handling.

Cookies and similar technologies

Necessary cookies support sessions, security, locale, and account functions. Analytics or referral technologies may be used when configured. Browser settings can control cookies, but blocking necessary cookies may prevent sign-in or paid features from working.
